Privacy notice: AI Middle Powers Initiative registrations

This notice explains what happens to the details you give when you register for the AI Middle Powers Initiative sessions in Freetown and online.

Who we are

This site is run by the Africa Climate and Energy Nexus (AfCEN) on behalf of the co-chairs of the initiative, the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Finland. AfCEN is responsible for the personal data collected through the registration form.

Contact: privacy@africacen.org

What we collect

  • How you will take part (in person or online), your name, email address, government or organisation, your seat at the table and the corridors you are interested in.
  • A one-way coded version of your internet address, which we cannot read back, and your browser type. We keep these only to protect the form from abuse.

Why we use it

  • To confirm your registration and send you a receipt and updates on its status.
  • To plan the sessions and the seating.
  • To send you information about the initiative’s programme and the Freetown sessions.

Our legal basis is your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the registration form.

Who sees it

  • The Summit Secretariat team at AfCEN, through a password-protected admin area.
  • Your registration is also recorded in AfCEN Convene, the platform that manages participation in the West Africa Integration and Investment Summit.
  • The co-chairs may receive a participant list for the sessions.

We never sell your details or share them for marketing.

Where it is kept

On servers AfCEN controls on Microsoft Azure in South Africa North. Emails are sent through Azure Communication Services from middlepowers@notify.africacen.org.

How long we keep it

For 12 months after the Freetown sessions, then we delete it. If you join the working group, we will ask you separately whether we may keep your details for that.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your details, and you can withdraw your consent at any time, by writing to privacy@africacen.org.

We handle your details under Kenya’s Data Protection Act 2019 and, for people in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You may complain to Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner or to the data protection authority where you live.
